In this article we are going to outline some basic guidelines for growing parsley indoors.
Parsley is very good for health and is an excellent source for calcium, iron as well as vitamins A, B, C and E.
Information to get started growing parsley indoors in your home:
- Choosing & Planting the seeds- What you need to know about which seeds you should pick for the best crop.
A good tip to speed up this process is to soak the seeds for around a day before planting them.
Parsley prefers a soil that contains little to no sand whatsoever.
Usually, a rich potting soil will suffice as will a soil with a high organic content.
Plant a good amount of seeds under about 1/2 inch of soil in a good sized pot, usually around 6-7 inches.
This will allow the plant to grow thick and should help to provide the humid environment that most herbs will grow well in.
Tip- Also consider planting them amongst other herbs to create a 'jungle' type humid environment.
As the plants start to grow, thin the seedlings out leaving around 3 inches between each plant.
As mentioned in the previous section, parsley like most herbs prefers a warm, humid environment.
However, Parsley also does not need a great deal of light to grow properly.
A windowsill that receives 3-4 hours of light daily will suffice to bring the plant into maturity.
Parsley will also thrive with some hours of shade and will also be happy on the edges of the light provided by a grow light.
- Watering – Watering techniques specifically for parsley.
If you keep the plant with other herbs then just water as normal (See here).
- Harvesting – How to harvest leaves and how to maximise crop growth for the future.
However, you may find that the leaves are of a better quality during the first annual period of the plant's life.
